Ear plastic surgery consists of the modification of the shape and/or size of the ear. Most common ear congenital malformation is named ear pinning.
The Ear Surgery
This plastic surgery consists of modifying the size or shape of the ears by means of resection of the skin and/or cartilage. An incision is made behind the ear, and no visible scars are left.
Length of Procedure
1 to 2 hours.
Anesthesia used
Neuroleptoanesthesia (deep sedation) or general, plus local anesthesia.
Hospitalization
Otoplasty requires a stay of less than six hours.
Post-operative Care
- Antibiotics
- The head must be elevated for the first 48 hours after otoplasty
- Avoidance of any trauma to the ear area
- No physical activity for the first week
- Contact sports allowed after the first month
Post-operative Treatment
Sutures are removed 10 to 12 days after plastic surgery.
